Even though I studied History in university I did not think of the quiet heroism that created a nation out of part of the British Empire. But then, he is an Albertan super hero. I would have loved to see a true sense of Calgary in 1917...more street scenes, shops, what life was really like.

The film tries to be a war movie and a romance, but succeeds in neither and has to resort to visual clichés of the poorest kind, and a plot tissue-paper thin .
