This is definately one of my all time favorite kung fu movies. Both fighters push themselves to show they are good at what they do.

The story was good from beginning to end. The cast is pretty good too.

Skilled fighter Sung Li Ting is looking for a Kung Fu master who can beat him in battle and teach him new techniques. collection.

It was very stiff, slow and boring but there's none of that here. Great fights, comedy, good plot.

It's generally regarded as director Lee Tso-nam's best film and should find itself a place on many a must-see martial arts film list. LOL. Want to share IMDb's rating on your own site? Police Story/Police Story 2 [Blu-ray] Haha! You wont be disappointed. 1 of 2 people found this review helpful. There wasn't a single fight I didn't like during the entire run time. It kind of turned into a cartoon, but it didn't hinder the enjoyment of the fight. If you've read my reviews when it comes to old school fight flicks, I often mention the story is very by the numbers. The head of the gang is a chief Lama, Yao Feng Lin, a sworn enemy of Shaolin who, twelve years ago, stole one of temple's most treasured martial arts manuals: the I ching manual. After his students are killed by the One Armed Boxer, a vengeful and blind Kung Fu expert travels to a village where a martial arts contest is being held and vows to behead every one armed man he comes across. Overall this movie was great. There is some wire-work, but usually not during the fight scenes. A man studies kung fu at the Shaolin Temple to fight back against the oppressive Manchu government.

With Alexander Rei Lo, Shan Charng, Hui-Yun Li, Jung Chi Sun. Love the wrestling moves mixed in with the kung fu stylings.Yeah, I was really caught off guard by how wild this movie was. Long story short, he had a deal with the very famous HK film collector and fan from the U.K., Toby Russell who he himself has many rare 35mm prints of kungfu films and was to release some of them through some sort of crowdfunding release. (Love the wine-drinking, meat-eating monk.) The Yang family was the loyal strong-arm of the Imperial army.

Please try again. Yu Ting defeats Chief Lama but to me it’s the Lama that makes the movie he has some of the best lines in the movie and his fighting skills just stand out. A lot of independent films had very mediocre choreography. This movie will have you laughing hard. He wasn't a terrible actor by any means and he could do lots of good looking and varied action. The 5 Deadly Venoms (Dragon Dynasty)

The DVD transfer I own is the one with the cover attached to my review and it is pretty bad.

Executioners from Shaolin. By that I mean, a North American DVD release with a decent transfer (preferably Widescreen) and subtitles?

Their fights are so ferocious, and feature such exciting snippets of styles from tiger fist to shadow boxing to Sanshou (as noted in a 2016 interview Chang Shan gave to Ultimate kudos to Nam and action director Peng Kong because none of the three main actors ever looked as good in any other film they made compared to This movie sounds spectacular. Shaolin vs Lama is yet another must see in the canon of martial arts cinema. You would think I'd be used to that sort of thing but it still surprises me when certain films have a lot more action then I expect.

Others blamed Falkor for trying to exploit fans by making money. He tries to train Foggy but to no avail. I do think they went a bit overboard with all the water spitting at the end to accentuate the force of the blows.

And when I say, “best” that’s a loose term, in this case. You must be a registered user to use the IMDb rating plugin. Skilled fighter Sung Li Ting is looking for a Kung Fu master who can beat him in battle and teach him new techniques.

There was a lot more action in this then I was expecting. Powered by

Unable to add item to Wish List. The fight scenes are excellent and it has a good story to it even if it is the usual master trains student, master gets killed, student avenges master. In the world of old school kung fu films of the 1970s and 80s, there is a vast mix of good-to-great films and terribly bad ones; films with superbly fast-paced fight choreography and ones with moves slower than my grandma on her morning mile walk before breakfast; films that make you laugh at the poorly-dubbed English tracks, which are endearing to those of us who view this as part of the “old school” charm; and the rarity film that puts all the best qualities of the genre together to create a masterpiece of chop-socky Asian cinema that stands the test of time.Look no further for one of these rarities than Lee Tso Nam’s Don’t get me wrong, I have several close seconds to The old monk refuses the job, but Hsu Shi devises a plan for Yu Ting to “steal” the Grandmaster’s kung fu by attacking him and learning his moves in the process (an absurd concept that proves highly entertaining when Yu Ting plays “keep away” with some smoked chickens… this GM loves his meat and wine!).

The first was “A Massacre Survivor”. Critic Reviews. Hsu Shi's master eventually agrees to take Yu Ting on as a student but lessons are cut short when the Lama turns up and kills the master (who therefore becomes ex-master). Lo Rei was an action star who appeared in many, many low budget independent films and Shaolin vs Lama is considered by many to be one of his best.
