watching and if they're not naked they're not getting any money that's what I was say sweet honey in the rock right how exciting that they're back on the road back to do a show and we're actually tiny in the night of international festival so international festival will be happening all day here and then at night uh will be sweet honey in the rock Royal wood anybody know who Royal what is he is a big country R in from Canada and he has a gorgeous voice he's trying to get an audience here so he's actually gonna be the winter cabaret so it could be him and his guitar playing his love songs February thirteenth sweet right I'll be there too ha for that what else one night of queen Gary mullens back on the road he's exciting and fun the chieftains are saying goodbye I mean any chiefs fans exactly the way they recorded note for note cut for cut no bad impersonations no cheesy costumes just absolute brilliance with musical purity and the best musician ship around S S S S S S S S S S S S S Someone S Nothing says S Nothing too exciting there really just kidding I'm just kidding uh Now I'm the show airplay with all the beautiful stuff in the air I saw that show couple of years ago at a showcase and it was so beautiful and when you know we're putting offers in for shows we priced the labor we get a rider that comes with the show and we priced the labor so as pricing the labor for this show as I was creating my budget for it and Steve shredder who's our tech director said oh don't do this in Capitol theater I'll be so gorgeous and overture Hall so it'll be an overture So that's kinda cool cathy mateo the great cathy materia she sounds awesome she does sound awesome alonzo King lines ballet they're an amazing company if you've never seen them uh planet libra maybe anybody go to havana Cuba allstars this year when we had them and did you dance no yes kinda who danced back there your dance without fun right to have the dance floor it yeah with it was in this building yet and uh so clean a libra Do the same thing with them but they're gonna be in capital theater so we're gonna have the dance floor out for that group too cuz I think that was so much fun to have that happen um what's the next slide well we gonna second city's got a special thing that we're gonna be oh yeah we have uh another second we have two second cities we're gonna do on a regular time in the evening and then we have their late night edition right that one 's got a rating on it so that one that one has a rain so I have a kid it's like a 10 o'clock show or something and so cuz here's the deal we used to put second city in this big Hall and we would you know so well with them cuz a lot of people want to see the show and so this let this past year it didn't work in here so we have them in their holiday show it in capital theater in it sold out so quickly that a lot of people didn't get a chance to see them so then I like it better over in capital theater there cuz you're close to them and it's fun and so I said let's do too and I said you got anything dirty right I said it just like that To the agent I said I want something late night and they're like oh my gosh they're just putting that show together and so they're coming at late night so they're pretty they're pretty you know regular time so can't wait to see what that's about so you can buy two shows what else do we have kara and then because we know you like to purchase this in series we thought we'd give you a rundown when you're purchasing your subscriptions for Broadway or overture presents you can just buy your over to present and they know some of you like the by the All National geographic series and so these are the last of the four the four I'm telling you the one that's gonna be interesting is this anatomy of a deceit it's all about lying and why people lie and figuring out how people lie Are they gonna hook his lie detector after you and have you been on stage for a little while Oh my God you know I'd love just as long as they don't ask cuz I would love to be on one of those lie detector tests it's interesting you don't live very well though no I don't nobody would be fun to be on the test be fun what else do we have I have a race seriously I know some of you book the whole cabaret series and that's a lovely lovely series um I'm excited for this one I think cindy winters uh is currently on Broadway in the lion King and she was in hamilton she was also here and she was also here yeah for um hunchback of notre dame on capital city theater right so if you saw that she was in that Royal You heard me talk before so he's a country guy kinda new to the cabaret and then alicia empress has this beautiful salty boys she's has a Broadway caliber to uh to her so that is the cabaret she's a great picture too doesn't she yes just all of them have great pictures it's fun it's important for me to book pretty people you know and uh I do that's a good pictures and then we have this show that didn't have a video with it so we have another uh collaboration with the Madison symphony orchestra we have Harry potter earlier in the season and then in may we have star wars live in concert who's gonna go to that good cuz there's a couple of shows of it I think it's gonna be beautiful and cool and uh it just so happens uh An agent who I work with sent me uh email a couple of weeks ago and said hey you gonna be in town April eight I'm gonna I'm coming to wisconsin to make a site visit and I said oh yeah it's our season announcement like you should come to that and then earlier today I was like you wanna be in the season announcement cuz I thought it's kind of interesting in working with an agent and we get this never get to see them live so please welcome jake kinder man He has um alright thank you he has uh he's uh agent with Columbia artist management uh this year we had a vanna Cuba allstars with your um agent season star wars with your agency we are working on another very cool project that was gonna be on the season but didn't quite work with the routing and so that's gonna be in 20 21 season hopefully a very cool project um we go back a long time long history so um What do you do as an agent like how do you how do you help me I know the answer like how do you help me get a show to Madison besides pitch and selling me right well uh being an agent is a pretty simple thing on its face where we we scout out artists and projects and shows and we think well this has some traction or maybe it's a proven show we think we can send this on a us Coast to Coast tour and uh Columbia artists uh tours dozens and dozens of projects every single year and we simply look at the history of Like the overture Center and we say well what is successful for the overture Center you know what is tim like and uh cuz you know that's very important that's right because when I don't like something what do I do it's a short phone call it's a very short phone call And uh we we just try to forecast what we think is you know uh route that has a high likelihood of succeeding and then we have backup plans and backup plans and backup plans cuz even if someone really likes the show sometimes like the one you just mentioned that you know we're we're hoping works out just fine next year uh you know sometimes the dates just not there and things get in the way and you know when hamilton's there nothing works cuz hamilton's in charge you know uh so we uh that that's about all there is to it so a lot of it is just um just Being addicts and constantly following up with people and lots and lots of phone calls and maybe they didn't like a lots of phone calls maybe they didn't like the last time but it's been two weeks maybe they'll change their mind you know I had an agent one time from one of your competitors I had an agent one time with a new training and new agent and I was sitting there and then one was on one side of me and one was on the other side and she and she was pitching me a show and I was like okay whatever and then she was pitching a show so I said no I'm not interested in that and then I was over here talking to this agent and then she went to bring that no show back and she went to say Something about the next show the agent goes like this that this agent went like this don't go there when tim says no he really means it that's right that's right it's true oh and everything I'm I'm thinking of you all the time when I'm booking shows right and I'm thinking about what you like here that's very important to have that relevance to you so you came to our building for the first time today yeah I've never been to man what do you think about our lovely Hall thanks for having me it's a gorgeous day to show up it is a gorgeous day I show up he's going to bear he went to bear boo how's that it was a You don't look a lot like here it's only an hour away so yeah on the water tomorrow and wass on all the way up to Howard and a bunch of other places where again we're howland is that how you like oh now I know where it is I had no idea what he's talking about Now it's true um anything else you wanna say unless you have something you don't have anything else to say oh and the other thing is they are divided by regions right so each region has their own wrap and today you added you said you added your your region is what's your region I'm generally the midwest uh but I I have 13 States I'm responsible for so I have to talk to hundreds and hundreds of different performing arts centers and and uh depending on the show we're putting together am I responsible to try to book a week or so sometimes it's four weeks depending on you know the confidence The type of show that we have and uh how long did the tour normally go out for it for so so for something like the havana Cuba all stars how many weeks were they out on the road that was about three months I think maybe a little bit longer yeah that's pretty average for I'd say four months is the max cuz they're generally in the fall or in the spring and that's that's when you're done and that's not really yet no one wants to come through in the winter time they're scared that polar vortex I didn't we went out in the polar vortex that mccarthy era we did I went over to her She took her children out in it that's how good a mother she is right and we did we went to covers cuz it was cuz it was the only thing open it's true we did we went out in the polar vortex if you'd come to cocktails with tim then you would see our National geographic live we survived the polar vortex that we did thank you jake thank you So are you ready for Broadway Take it away car Come up they could pass tomorrow Shot S S Take a shot That's great that you're gonna you're gonna subscribe you're all subscribing right yeah so you'll get your good seats you don't have anything to worry about no alright good that show number one Which you knew about so that's why we start with the big figure you know yeah right and for what's the matter when oh when I don't know do you expect us in on these things I guess we can tell you uh it comes in in November so your subscription week is the week before Thanksgiving and it's here for three weeks You're welcome now if you ask me when the other ones are I really don't know I know what month there in yeah honey I'm booking 20 21 right now I don't even know what year we're in right alright for our next show please welcome from the Jerry on sample yay they're gonna perform kyle capos a and eric's Intel they're both from oregon high school shoot I have is out of order I have this out of order I got you and you got me I don't need my glasses on to see were both pretty lucky stuck inside with no together forever Be F that stands for us life is sweet their snacks we can eat we'll have fun if we go out and just sit around doing nothing let's explore open every drawer they you found my long lost well that's what friends are for This is the best friends and this is the friends were best friends and this is a franklin we're best birthday every little thing that I can gather S Hello waiting hi bubble in the sky forever For us That stands for us Big up for us be bed stands for spongebob and Patrick that stands for us whoa S Experience wonders that pour from the stage in the Broadway hit that critics agree is the best of the year this joyous extraordinary creative explosion as a party for the eyes and ears it's effort best and candy for the spirit and fun for all with original songs by grammy award winning artists the New York times calls it brilliant a colorful inventive incredible visual spectacle don't miss the boldly theatrical the spongebob musical Hence this everybody who got this from the beginning who got that I was dressed as sponge Bob and the rain I get to be patched and look she's dressed as Patrick and I I couldn't find plaid pants and it was close it was close with the shorts though right yeah listen I'm excited about sponge Bob we both are it is a great creative imaginative show uh it's the only place is playing in wisconsin will be here at the overture Center so beyond to us when they said grammy award winning um artist it's the likes of cindy lapper dated the late David bowie lady antebellum uh Stephen tyler and even playing what yes Steven tyler and when I when I first heard about the show coming out that way I mean they played pretty Broadway in Chicago right and we we we both thought in okay how's the music gonna fit together right cuz you get that many artists but it it really does it fits together really well and it is a there are very few perfect musicals out there that really is one of them I would not lie to you at all I was watching the show I saw three times in New York and I was watching the show and he doesn't why is that funny times either that's not funny Listen I saw one night with the millennials in a Tuesday night and they were having a great time with it cuz everybody grew up with the show and then one weekend I went again and I was in the audience and squid word who's one of the characters if you know sponge Bob and he's like you know talks like this and he has a song I'm not a loser these things in the show and at one point he said oh I'm such a loser and some little boy screamed out you're not a loser was awesome I knew right then I wanted to show because the kids were so they were like rock stars when they were interviewed when I saw it in their second to last performance um before they closed and we had I mean I think all of the sponge Bob fans came out for that show cuz he got a standing ovation I mean there were standing ovations in the Middle of some of those just when the characters were introduced because they knew it but at the same time I walked into that show the first time I saw I never watched a single spongebob episode in my life in fact it was never a fan at all quite the O Actually and I walked away I just I love the show I mean it's just it brings you joy it does it's a cute little best friend story and yeah yeah cuz my kids love it too so yeah which is fact alright okay we'll move on so we dressed up he did I'm trying to get to pass it the kinky it doesn't top kinky boots thinking close this weekend it just finished his Broadway run it had such a successful Broadway run yet did yeah did right the next show kara alright we don't have any video for nope so we're just gonna Quickly so they can't see it oh um I have dates by the way spongebob is October eighth through thirteenth correct I knew that when actually the color purple ooh that was a good reception yeah to the color purple you know it's never played here this is uh the revival version what one tony's in two thousand five or two thousand 15 I mean and of course it's based on the alice Walker 19 eighty two book which then was turned Steven spielberg turned into a very successful um Movie in 19 eighty five making oprah winfrey a star and whoopie goldberg and uh so we're excited to have the color purple the the new revival is this beautifully ree imagined show um and so that show number three on your series that one 's February eighteenth to the 20 third in 20 20 how weird is that fear to say 20 20 20 20 my eyesight used to be 20 20 S I love you I love anybody that laughs at anything I do is that a baby crying now no it wasn't because I want to say some cute about that alright for our next show please welcome to the stage heather bots S Sleep sleep I couldn't sleep tonight I couldn't I couldn't I could High winds and S Begun S S My clinic I could My credit score S What made it so S S Began Thank you heather box ladies and gentlemen my fair lady Welcome to Madison welcome to the stage thank you this is my first time here really what do you think I love it it's so cute I went to collect tivo coffee today yes there you go so this is a production of the lincoln Center theater they brought the King and I and war horse at this stage in the past what is it like to work for this very prestigious production company oh my gosh it's so profound you know it's one thing to get a call that you're going to be on Broadway and it's another call entirely to know you're gonna be doing you know the revival of my fair lady um with bartlett share and lincoln Is known to um to reinterpret the classic so profoundly with so much so much depth so it's been an honor to be part of this production where did you grow up I grew up in walla walla Washington I don't know if anyone knows that a long way a long way from lincoln Center is a long way congratulations this production first hit the stage in 19 56 with julianne as our production is uh remake from eight to 20 eighteen and the story is sort of focuses more analyze that do little flower girl what is your take on this new interpretation well when I knew Bart was gonna be directing this production I was so excited because he really investigates in digs really deeply into the material and he's so good at you know at these classics and reinventing those classics and so he of course went back to the original source which was pick mali in the original text of this story and you know a lot of people think eliza it's like uh a rescue story you know where higgins finds her and turns her into a Princess and and that is not what bart is telling so she um Wanted to make sure that she uh we see the story through through her eyes and you know it's a woman desperate to change your situation in life and um it was so exciting to be able to tell his version of the story the songs in the show are incredible I could have danced all night rain in Spain would it be lovely on the Street where you live what is your favorite to perform and why oh my goodness well lovely of course it's so much fun um but my favorite song to sing in the show is without you um it's not done I think are looking concerts very often but it's such an important Point in the story because it's where eliza she realizes Henry higgins is not on this pedestal she's had him on through throughout this entire journey and she realizes that they're equals and that she realizes that he's human um so that's my favorite part to tell it's a must be so much fun to sing those songs oh yeah so legendary and if there's also a lot of pressure yeah people know the song you have to get them right yeah we mentioned the King and I were in the train production last year for this what is it like to be on the road I They had a great time I'm sorry I didn't get to come to Madison but um my favorite thing to do is to find a coffee shop which I did today and the second thing is define doughnuts it's literally my favorite thing so if you know any doughnut places Yes I literally had a spreadsheet and did a doughnut tour across the country it was like my thing we have lots of good doughnuts so good I can't wait we're looking forward to your return it's in April April 20 20 other cute welcome to Madison congratulations thank you Alright my fair lady huh I like doughnuts too heather I could eat them every day car likes them too alright what's next let's see our next show cara we don't we do have video S But I just want to go into the next one or do you have more to say you know it's it's funny to watch how these shows adapt for the road because anybody see my fair lady in New York that set was unbelievable wasn't it stages it's like they have a whole House on the stage that rotates through the whole thing like unbelievable that's all I have to say it's true right and so it's always interesting how they're gonna adapt that for the road because they can't bring that big House with them stages it was like the miss saigon helicopter Which only some of them so it was cool wasn't it you know it broke we didn't have it on Tuesday and Wednesday because it got damaged in transit and I found out from the cast members that that's only happened like this is only like the fourth time that it's happened and they've been on the road since September so it's relatively impressive that it's only the broken how many times it stinks that it twice was here rice was here yeah it was cool that it wasn't it does use on alright let's see the next show car S S You will enjoy okay yeah that's 51 more this one comes may twelfth through seventeenth there's one more on the six package six pack It's the right state for that joke Naked magicians I'm irene sank off and I'm the Co author of come from away and I'm David and I'm the other coauthor and her husband Come from way tells the story of when a 38 planes and thousands of passengers were diverted to the tiny community of gander newfoundland and the surrounding towns the people welcomed off the plans by the people here and they gave him everything they possibly could S S The generosity in this story that happens in newfoundland really rise with what it was like to be in New York on nine 12 and following I think new yorkers were their best self at that moment they're almost seven thousand people who landed here and there was almost nine thousand people in town at the time so we wanted to tell 16000 stories in a hundred minute musical with 12 actors Stay grounded You just can't tell the story without music there's very few moments where there's not music I have been struck by how much the audience wants to tell their story after the show he walked through the lobby and everybody comes up and wants to talk about the show and what they were doing that day it's been truly humbling to know that we've touched people's lives with this story because I know we were incredibly touch Come from away Uh it's a beautiful beautiful show people and it has such a heart to it uh each year when we go to the Broadway League one of the things that the Broadway League conference does have these creative conversations where they bring out the cast or the creators of the show and it's a facilitated conversation that we experience and be able to ask some questions and when they did that come from away one they actually brought in some of the original uh the real people that the show is based on like the female pilot from American Airlines and she was the first female pilot and they had the mayor The town and they were telling this story and then I'm I'm telling you this cuz this is the heart of this show they were telling the story about how when they had to evacuate when they were done um and they had to get out um not evacuate when they were leaving gander to go back the planes had the planes had a short time period that they had to get out because bad weather was coming right so they were loading up the planes and loading up the planes and they found out there was one person missing and he was from Nigeria and they couldn't find him and so the plane had to leave without him and they said well we'll just put him on another plane at another time and he was missing for days and he comes back a few days later with a group of guys cuz they were out moose hunting isn't that the greatest story that they take this guy moose hunting and I just thought that that was such a sweet sweet story to tell and it really does cap That essence of the show it is it is truly beautiful so that's your six show package what I am go ahead I'm gonna share my story okay yes share your story so what I found interesting about it because you know there's there's there's now a a bunch of people who weren't um around when it is this history this event is history to them and I saw this show when I was at the Jimmy awards um back when it was out and I watched it with a whole bunch of high schoolers who were you know barely born if they were born when this actually happened you know and I was I was around so it was interesting For me to watch the responses that they had because they have a totally different experience with what nine 11 means to them right but this show has a remarkable way of it doesn't matter if you were there if it's history if it's you know where you were it has this way of like connecting to you and just not letting you go it's it's a it's a great show we laughed we cried we all yeah it's beautiful it has everything in it regardless of what age we were in the audience so it was it's beautiful I'm excited for it to come good alright can go on
