Apart from it’s enchanting shimmer, the black ring creates a step that serves for posting the cap securely. And the screw cap is a step forward for the Cross flagship fountain pen. The Peerless is believed by Cross to be the finest pen they've ever created. I've picked up (by which I mean "handled in the store", not "bought") a few of the regualr editions and I've been really impressed, both by the nib, the attention to detail, and the comfortable feel in the hand. That puts it in the same class as my Pelikan M1000 and Montblanc 149, both of which I have owned for more than a decade. I write with it for hours at a time sometimes. Paradoxically enough, there is also a certain distaste, when it comes to my acceptance of their nib smoothness. Both of them are piston fillers, as I tend to like piston filling, but it is always good to have a few converter filling pens around, to allow easier change in ink color. Now if aliens indeed attack, this is not the time you are found to be putting ink in the Tokyo! Sailor, on the other hand, that's a brand I really love. I've owned some Cross pens over the years but sold them. Very nice flow, almost like a fountain pen without the leaks. Her review motivated me to search for a source for my own. A cousin of my Delta and my $45 Pilot [also with a metal barrel]. I actually quite like the design of the FP. As a consumer, there's no way I could buy a separate Sailor nib (and yes, I'd want to).
